Düsseldorf Student Services (SWD - Studierendenwerk Düsseldorf) is responsible for the financial, physical, cultural and social wellbeing of about 60.000 students at the four universities in Düsseldorf, Lower Rhine University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach and Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort . It provides a number of services to make students’ life easier.

For example, Düsseldorf Student Services takes care of its guests’ welfare in nine canteens and fifteen cafeterias and lets about 4.000 places in 25 housing complexes. It is in charge of the administration of the Federal Education Assistance Act (BAföG – Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz), awards Completion of Studies Grants (Daka) and runs its own budgeting and financial advice service.

The advisory service assists students with social law-related or personal problems as well as disabled and/or chronically ill students. The International Affairs and Culture Department arranges insurance cover for students from abroad or for students who want to study abroad and organizes international exchange programmes as well as a broad spectrum of cultural activities. 188 daycare places are available in its four nursery schools.
