Friday 15 March // Workshop: Intercultural Awareness (English)

A workshop for international students and exchange students at the HSD within the framework of the Spring School. We work on the topic "culture shock" and develop coping strategies for personal and cultural challenges. The workshop will be held in English.

Two-hour walking tour of the "Altstadt" for internattional students.

Saturday 23 March // Trip to Drachenfels and Drachenburg Castle

At the end of the orientation weeks we go for a hike to the Drachenfels in Königswinter. We also visit the fairytale castle Drachenburg.​

Tuesday 2 April // Start of weekly "Sprachcafé mOndial"

Every Tuesday evening, participants of the HSD language courses and other German and international students will meet at the Sprachcafé mOndial. You are cordially invited to practice your intercultural competence and language skills with free drinks and funny quiz questions.

Tuesday 9 April // Guided Tour of Alter Schlachthof Memorial Centre (English)

The memorial at the Alter Schlachthof, located directly on our campus today, commemorates the crimes committed during the reign of the National Socialist regime. We invite you to an introduction to the history and significance of the former slaughterhouse, which was used as a collection point before the deportations to the concentration camps.

Wednesday 10 April // Exchange Speed Meeting

Network event for outgoing and incoming exchange students. At this meeting you will get to know students from the HSD and partner universities abroad in a relaxed atmosphere, find tandem partners and/or new friends.

Wednesday 8 May // In Conversation with the Foreigners’ Registration Office: Right of Residence for International Students (German, questions in English welcome!)

In cooperation with the International Office of Heinrich Heine University and the Office for Migration and Integration Düsseldorf. If you have ever asked yourself “Do I need official permission if I want to get a job?”, “does an internship count towards my permissible days of work?” or “do I need to inform the Foreigners’ Office when I move to a different city?” this lecture is for you. You will get valuable insight into proceedings at the Office and there will be time for individual questions.

Saturday 11 May // Trip to the Gasometer in Oberhausen with the exhibition "The Call of the Mountains" (English)

The Gasometer in Oberhausen is an industrial monument, landmark of the city and symbol for the development of the entire Ruhr area. Built in the 1920s, the disc gas tank is reminiscent of the heavy industry that has shaped the region for more than a century.
Visit with us the Gassometer and the current special exhibition "The Call of the Mountains", the highlight of which is an impressive replica of the Matterhorn in the 100 metre high airspace of the Gasometer.

Wedneday 15 May // Closing date for the annual photo contest

Saturday 25 May // Japan Day in Düsseldorf

Japan Day is one of the biggest cultural events in Düsseldorf every year. Together we visit the colourful hustle and bustle along the Rhine promenade and immerse ourselves in Japanese culture.

Two-hour hike to Burg castle in Solingen.

Wednesday 12 June // Lecture: German Labour Law 101 (German, questions in English welcome!)

In cooperation with Heinrich Heine University. A lawyer will inform you about German labour law – everything you need to know from contract of employment to reference letters. After the lecture, you will have a chance to ask questions.

Wednesday 26 June // Excursion to the Career Information Centre (Berufsinformationszentrum BIZ) of the Employment Agency Düsseldorf (German)

In cooperation with the International Office of Heinrich Heine University and the Employment Agency Düsseldorf. This excursion gives international students an opportunity to learn what the Agency has to offer. The programme includes a presentation on the job market in Germany and an introduction to the Agency’s online career portal and learning services.

The International Office invites all HSD students to this cultural exchange.
The Summer Party offers the opportunity to try international delicacies, make new contacts and exchange ideas with other students about the past semester at the HSD.

In cooperation with Studierendenwerk Düsseldorf.

Two-hour hike from Gruiten to the Neanderthal Museum.

Thursday 1 August // Application deadline for graduation scholarship

Applications are open to international students of the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences who have so far achieved good academic results and who are expected to complete their studies within one year with a Bachelor's or Master's thesis.
